Update on the 56 Hauler Project

Hauler is now on the Table taking measurements to ensure the custom frame fitment is perfect for the cab and Body. No question about it this truck will be a show stopper. Kevin has been going through all aspects of the build with the customer to ensure that the customer is getting exactly what he wants.

The 68 Camaro is slowly taking shape. It has taken it’s place on the Frame table to ensure all the measurements are perfect . Custom rear frame rails welded in to ensure it will not lose it’s integrity around the corners or when the heavy foot hits the floor .

What you will most likely see is the rear end of this 68 Camaro.

The 32 Chev has a new Engine that will turn some heads as well as the rear wheels!!!

1968 Camaro Pro Street

We're gearing up at Boothill for one of our most exciting builds yet. Our killer camaro is currently in the mach up stage as we prefit all of our upgraded components together. This is the preliminary step before any coatings are applied to the vehicle to verify proper fit and function.

The GM performance 502 ramjet needs to be paired up to it 5 speed O.D. Tremec transmission. The powertrain is then installed atop the redesigned suspension and all correct alignments and angles are set. We need to be sure that the airride system is completely compatible with our speedtech torque arm setup.

Any and all mods will be done in this first round of assembly including rack and pinion power steering, stainless steel fuel, brakes, airride, and a/c lines. The vintage air system will be fit under the dash behind the smoothy firewall. We'll even be sure the discrete stereo system is prepped for final assembly. So basically we're building a restomod 68 out of raw, unfinished materials and then we're going to tear it all down and apply the final paint and coatings and then reassemble with confidence that it'll be perfect.

Sound's like a lot of extra work? Welcome to the world of custom cars.

ProCharger System Installation

This week in the shop we are making a Crate 350 Gm Block and Supercharging it!

Why?

There are a number of reasons. First, an efficient supercharger system can produce yesterday's musclecar performance using today's low-octane gasoline, with exceptional reliability and minimal impact upon fuel economy. Second, superchargers have developed to the point that they are easy to install and simple to maintain, especially when compared to pulling, rebuilding and fine-tuning an engine. Finally, unlike nitrous oxide, which requires frequent repurchase of fuel, once a supercharger is installed there is no more expense or hassle associated with performance. In short, supercharging delivers exceptional performance with little of the hassles traditionally associated with high performance. Centrifugal supercharging is the only way to make a reliable 500, 600, 700+ horsepower on otherwise stock, daily driven V-8's.

How does it work?

Superchargers achieve performance gains by increasing the density of the air/fuel charge within the combustion chambers of an engine. This increase in density is achieved by forcing additional amounts of air (beyond the amount of air that normal atmospheric pressure would force into the engine) at the lowest temperature possible. CFM measures the volume of air that an engine is flowing, while MAF (mass air flow) also factors in the temperature of the air charge, since a cooler charge is more dense and therefore more powerful. So in more technical terms, supercharging increases both the volumetric efficiency of the engine and the mass air flow through the engine to produce gains in both horsepower and torque.

Install point of view from Intern Dalton!!

Today I put my first Super Charger into a Chevy 350 small block. At first I didn’t know how to even start , So when in doubt( RTFM) turn to the instruction manual . then went step by step till we ended up with killer looking engine ready to drop intp next shop project . It was super easy so get yourself one and drop it in to your ride . Looks really cool and put s some crazy power to the rubber on the road !!

'75 Gremlin X - Car Restoration Project

Nothing turns heads and draws out excitement quite like our Project Gremlin. Everyone has an opinion.

The task: Build a 400 hp AMC engine with street manners and reliability, yet monster attitude on demand. But don't stop the powerflow at the crankshaft! We're looking to deliver it all through the rear tires and make it stick to the pavement. Oh yeah...and make it look stock from one lane over.

What puts the GRRRRRR!!!! in the Gremlin?

The tricks: AMC 360 fully balanced, Edelbrock aluminum performer heads and air gap intake manifold, 750 double pumper Holley, GM 700R4 automatic overdrive transmission, Ford 9" 4.10:1 posi trac narrowed rear axle, deleted leaf springs, custom rear torque arm suspension with coilover shocks and 11.5" wide rear footprints.

Check out these cool pics from Boot Hill Automotive's Project Gremlin!

Boot Hill introduces Lucas Oil Products

Boot Hill Auto now carries the full line of Lucas Oil products.
Not only do we sell them, we use them exclusively in our service department.
From oil and fuel additives to heavy duty shop lubricants and grease.
Lucas oil is also the leader in synthetic oil products for cars, 4X4s and motorcycles.
We've tested most of their products and find them second to none! Doesn't matter if its
octane boost, extreme cold weather fuel additive or synthetic diff. lube, this stuff works.
Racing oils, two-stroke oil or any heavy duty application, Try it!

Here's another restoration tip !

Wheel And Tire Fitment

There are few things more deflating than discovering you've bought the wrong wheels
and tires for your restoration project. They stick out too far, rub the fender lip,
have the wrong offset, or are just too large. It is crucial for you to measure and
do a reality check before laying down hard-earned money for new tires and wheels,
which can be very expensive. Resist the temptation to go big just because your buddy
managed to fit 20-inch wagon wheels on his '69 GTO. And this isn't just about fit;
it is also about ride and handling quality.

Winter Storage for your Collector Car

There has been lots of articles written about preparing your old car for winter storage. As with the human body, inactivity is a killer. For your car, rubber, metal, wiring, chrome, internal engine components and brakes all can suffer from sitting and experiencing changes in tempurature and humidity. A constant temperature environment is ideal, of course, but we all dont have heated storage at our disposal. So here is our collection of thoughts for winter storage. You'll want to take her out for one last spin and top up the gas tank and add fuel stabilizer.

Start with a good detailing. Wash and dry the car well then wax. Remove all road grime and dirt from the undercarriage as well as wheel wells and chrome trim. Try using a thin film of Vaseline around the weatherstriping on doors and trunk.

Vacuum the inside of the car well and place a couple of boxes of open baking soda, it helps absorb moisture. To help make it critter proof, try a couple moth balls on the rear seat carpet area. Also keep critters out of the exhaust system by stuffing an oily rag in the tail pipe(s).

Make sure you have fresh brake fluid and antifreeze in the car. Remove the battery, wash it, and keep it in the basement or somewhere warm. Jack the car up and grease all lubericating points. Then leave the car on jack stands at the suspension pionts and remove the wheels for storage. Change the oil in the engine. Over the summer a small amount of gasoline may be in the oil pan. If left over the winter corrosion could occur around the main and rod bearing area.

Now you're pretty much ready to cover it up. Keep a couple windows rolled down a couple inches . Good quality, beathable car covers are good. Cotton flannel blankets work great too. Don't use plastic or polyester fabrics, they trap heat and moisture during tempurature changes. Hopefully you have a couple small assignments to do over the winter to the car to keep you checking it's condition.

Boot Hill is opening it's doors for car club tours. Over the winter, to keep the enthusiasm up, we've desided to conduct shop tours to car clubs that meet in the evenings and weekends over the winter. This practice will likely carry on into next summer as well. Just give me a call at the shop during regular hours and book an appointment a few weeks in advance. Let me know how many are coming and the snacks and coffee will be on.
